Clark County deputy shoots, kills suspected prowler

Associated Press

RIDGEFIELD, Wash. – The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said one of its deputies shot and killed a suspected prowler Sunday morning.

The office said the man died at a local hospital following the shooting near Ridgefield in southwest Washington. The male deputy was not injured.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation found that the suspect was armed with a handgun.

A homeowner called 911 Sunday morning to report a prowler in the area. Shortly after arriving at the scene, the deputy reported that he had shot the man.

Sgt. Fred Neiman said the deputy tried to provide initial medical aid to the man before he was taken to the hospital.

No other details about what happened were released Sunday. Detectives with a regional major crimes team are investigating.

The deputy has been placed on paid leave, which is standard in such situations.
