Fire destroys thousands of tons of hay near Junction City

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. – Fire officials said a fire that has destroyed thousands of tons of hay near Junction City is expected to burn for days.

The Register-Guard reported that the fire broke out Friday in tall hay piles at the Bounds Hay Co., located northwest of Junction City. No injuries were reported but about 15,000 tons of hay and a large barn were destroyed.

Eugene Springfield Battalion Chief Lance Lighty said the fire is expected to burning anywhere from two days to another week and will likely create millions of dollars in losses.

Electricity was shut off in the area of the fire.
