Man dies on street in northeast Spokane

Spokane police were investigating the death of a man who died in the middle of a street in northeast Spokane late Monday afternoon.

Police were called about 5:30 p.m. in front of 1619 E. Columbia Ave. on a report of an injured male in middle of the road.

Officers, firefighters and paramedics located the man, who had “traumatic injuries,” but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said officer Nick Briggs.

Major crimes detectives are investigating, Briggs said.

Police were called earlier in the evening to an area less than two blocks away on Pittsburg between Central and Bismark on report of fireworks. Police remained at that scene Monday evening. Briggs said police had not confirmed the scene was related to the fatality.

The man’s body remained at the scene three hours after the initial call covered with a tarp.
