Man found dead in Spokane River identified

The man found in the Spokane River near East Mission Avenue Sunday afternoon has been identified as James Gilmore, 27.

Gilmore was found by two young girls attending a swim meet at nearby Witter Pool. He did not have any internal injuries and his cause of death is still under investigation, according to the Spokane County Medical Examiner.

Gilmore was a registered sex offender after being convicted of indecent liberties in 2005, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
