Coeur d’Alene to pay tribute to two Tubbs Hill conservation champions

From staff reports

A community tribute to the late Coeur d’Alene residents Scott Reed and Art Manley will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at the McEuen Park Pavilion.

The event is sponsored by the Kootenai Environmental Alliance and the Tubbs Hill Foundation. Memorial stones with plaques honoring both men will be unveiled at the event and later placed at trailheads on Tubbs Hill. Free huckleberry lemonade and ice cream will be served.

Reed, an attorney who died in 2015, was often on the front lines to protect natural areas and public access to places like Tubbs Hill, Sanders Beach and Coeur d’Alene Lake, according to a news release.

Manley died in 2004 at age 88. He served six terms as an Idaho state senator and one term in the state House. Manley championed conservation, education and public welfare, and he was active in the Tubbs Hill Committee and Kootenai Environmental Alliance.

The City of Coeur d’Alene has proclaimed July 1 as Art Manley-Scott Reed Day.
