Newsmakers: NC State forward Abdul-Malik Abu pulls out of NBA Draft

Announced North Carolina State forward Abdul-Malik Abu says he’s withdrawing from the NBA draft pool and coming back for his junior season. Abu said Thursday that he “will be returning to the place that I call home, N.C. State.” After months of speculation and indecision, five-star center Marques Bolden finally announced his college choice. He is going to Duke. The commitment of the 6-foot-10, 240-pound DeSoto (Texas) senior gives Duke the No. 1 recruiting class nationally, edging out Kentucky for that distinction.

Signed The NASCAR team announced that Kevin Harvick has signed a long-term contract extension with Stewart-Haas Racing. Harvick won the Cup championship in 2014, his first year with SHR. He’s won nine of his 32 career victories with since joining the organization. Harvick will continue to work with crew chief Rodney Childers, who signed a multi-year contract with SHS in 2015

Highest-Paid Despite being fired in 2009, Charlie Weis remained the highest-paid coach on Notre Dame’s payroll last year. The university paid Weis $2,054,744 between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015, according to Notre Dame’s most recent IRS documents made public this week. The documents say the payments ended last December.

Kaka remains Major League Soccer’s highest-paid player at just over $7 million, and American goalkeeper Tim Howard will earn slightly more than $2.5 million in his return to the league. Kaka, the former AC Milan and Real Madrid star, is earning a base salary of $6.6 million from Orlando City, according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.

Fired New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, one of the NFL’s highest-paid players among non-quarterbacks the past several years, has fired his longtime agents. ESPN first reported that Revis had parted ways with Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, the cornerback’s agents since his rookie year in 2007. Schwartz and Feinsod negotiated a few huge deals for Revis, who has made $101 million in his career, according to Spotrac.com.

Sidelined Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be sidelined for offseason workouts and maybe more because of a knee injury. The team said that Ramsey, the fifth overall selection in the NFL draft, sustained a “small tear to the meniscus” in his right knee during on-field workouts earlier this week.
