Education Notebook: Indian Trail Elementary stages ‘Wizard of Oz’

Indian Trail Elementary School’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” continues Thursday.

“The Wizard of Oz” is at 7 p.m. at North Central High School, 1600 N. Howard St. The show is free, though donations toward production costs will be accepted.

Fair for sixth-graders to focus on sciences

The Libby Center is hosting the Odyssey Research Fair, a science and technology fair for sixth-graders, Thursday.

Students will present projects they have been working on for the past semester using displays, multimedia presentations, games, investigations, videos and more.

Judges, including Dr. Jann Leppien, a nationally recognized gifted educator and associate professor/Margo Long Chair at Whitworth University; Deb Johnson, education director of Prodigy Northwest; Libby Center Principal Dr. Debra De Witt; and Dr. David Claypool of Sumas Medical Clinic, will determine first, second and third place awards.

The Odyssey Research Fair is 6 p.m. Thursday at 2900 E. First Ave.

Students qualify for regional, state music

Students from Spokane Public Schools and West Valley High School have been accepted to the All-Northwest and All-State Honor ensembles. These students will perform at the National Association for Music Education Northwest Division Conference in Bellevue in February.

Washington Music Educators Association All-State Band: Grant Lucke, Alaina Stockdill and Allie Vu, all from Ferris High School.

WMEA All-State Orchestra: Amelia Stockdill, Joey Pomeroy and Jason Powell, Ferris; Maxwell Gillmer, Lewis and Clark High School.

NAfME All-Northwest Treble Choir: Brynna Biddle, Avea Emerson and Ruby Gibford, Ferris; Serena McLaurin and Julie Mackenzie, Shadle Park High School.

NAfME All-Northwest Mixed Choir: CJ Lorentz, Ferris; Benjamin Fischer, Kate Rawlins and Victoria Schauer, Lewis and Clark; Noah Schmidt, Rogers High School.

WMEA All-State Symphonic Choir: Meg Bates, Kendall Fink, Madelyn Hone, Allie Pinnock, Aaron Skipper, Emma Swodoba and Morgan Williams, Ferris; Emily Armstrong, Brodin Jones and Cosette King, Lewis and Clark; Jadin Frye, North Central High School; Shelby Gagnier, Rogers.

WMEA All-State Honor Choir: Haley Jo Burghart, Eishiro Ishizaka and Alex Rodriguez, West Valley High School.

WMEA All-State Orchestra: Avery Shulenbarger, Ferris.

WMEA All-State Concert Band: William Cameron, Joshua Garbuio and Caleb Hindman, Lewis and Clark.

WMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra: Caleb McKe, Lewis and Clark.

NAfME All-Northwest Orchestra: Anna Seppa, Lewis and Clark.
