Digest: Montreal beat Toronto for 7th strait win

NHL: Shea Weber scored a power-play goal in the third period, lifting the Montreal Canadiens over the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Saturday night in Montreal, for their seventh straight victory.

Alex Galchenyuk also scored for Montreal, which is 8-0-1 and the only NHL club without a regulation loss this season.

Nazem Kadri scored for the Leafs, who were coming off a 3-2 win Thursday over Florida.

Toronto outshot Montreal 37-31, but Carey Price made 37 saves for the Canadiens. Frederik Andersen had 29 stops for the Leafs.

Montreal has won 11 straight over Toronto, which last beat the Canadiens on Jan. 18, 2014.

The Canadiens were on a 4-on-3 power play when Radulov slid a pass to Weber for a blast from about 35 feet out that went inside the right post. It was Weber’s fourth goal and 10th point in nine games as a Canadien. Three of them have been on the power play.

Feng leads Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia

Golf: Shanshan Feng birdied four of her final six holes after a long lightning delay to top the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia leaderboard when darkness suspended play.

The 27-year-old Chinese player had a one-stroke lead over fellow major champion Anna Nordqvist of Sweden. Feng was 7 under for the day and 13 under overall on the 18th tee when third-round play was stopped at TPC Kuala Lumpur.

Kirk, List share PGA Tour lead in Mississippi Chris Kirk and Luke List each shot 7-under 65 to share the third-round lead in the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Kirk and List were at 14-under at the Country Club of Jackson, Misssissippi.

Cody Gribble (67), Canada’s Graham DeLaet (68), and 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover (68) were a stroke back.

Second-round leader Grayson Murray had a 72 to drop two shots behind.

Doolan leads Walgreens Charity Championship: Wendy Doolan shot a 3-under 69 in windy conditions to take the first-round lead in The Legends Tour’s Walgreens Charity Championship in Del Ray Beach, Florida.

The 47-year-old Australian won three LPGA Tour titles. She’s now a teaching professional in Lakeland.

“I like the challenge of the wind and it actually keeps it interesting,” Doolan said.

Pernice Jr., Jobe share PowerShares QQQ lead: Tom Pernice Jr. had four straight birdies and shot an 8-under 64 for a share of the PowerShares QQQ Championship lead with Brandt Jobe in Thousand Oaks, California.

Jobe had a 66 to match Pernice at 11-under 133 at Sherwood in the PGA Tour Champions’ playoff opener.

Pernice began the run on the par-5 11th and also birdied the par-3 12th, par-5 13th and par-4 14th. The four-time tour winner birdied another par 5 on 16 and closed with two pars. Jobe had eight birdies and two bogeys.

Matsuyama keeps 3-shot lead at HSBC Champions: Hideki Matsuyama of Japan took advantage of the par 5s for a 4-under 68 and kept his three-shot lead in the HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Matsuyama played bogey-free at Sheshan International for the first time all week. He didn’t produce as many birdies, picking up three of them on the par 5s. A two-putt birdie on the par-5 18th was enough for him to maintain his margin. He was at 17-under 199.

Tsonga to play No. 1 Murray in Vienna final

Tennis: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga saved a match point before beating Ivo Karlovic 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (6) and setting up a final against top-seeded Andy Murray at the Erste Bank Open.

Murray advanced because defending champion David Ferrer pulled out with a left leg injury shortly before their semifinal.

Tournament director Herwig Straka said Ferrer visited a private clinic, where doctors advised him not to play. Further details on the Spaniard’s injury were not immediately available.

Cibulkova’s faces final test in Kerber: Top-ranked Angelique Kerber and seventh-seeded Dominika Cibulkova will compete for the WTA Finals title on Sunday in Singapore.

The top-seeded Kerber picked apart defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska’s game in a textbook 6-2, 6-1 semifinal drubbing.

This is Kerber’s fourth trip to the WTA Finals and the first time she’s advanced beyond the round-robin stage of the competition.

Nyquist out of Breeders’ Cup Classic

Horse Racing: Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist won’t run in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic next Saturday at Santa Anita because of a “puffy ankle.”

Trainer Doug O’Neill said that last year’s 2-year-old champion came out of his workout Thursday with the ankle issue.

He says Nyquist jogs soundly and X-rays revealed nothing, but the issue occurred too close to next weekend’s race.

Bar Hopping wins Breeders Crown: Bar Hopping foiled Trotting Triple Crown champion Marion Marauder’s chances to add a Breeders Crown to his laurels with a stakes record-equaling 1:51.4 win at East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the $500,000 race for 3-year-old colts and geldings.

Trained by Jimmy Takter, Bar Hopping finished 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Southwind Frank and paid $3.80 to win with Tim Tetrick in the bike.

Ronaldo scores 3 in Madrid win

miscellany: Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty kick but scored three times to restore his touch and help Real Madrid increase its lead of the Spanish league in Barcelona.

Madrid’s win ensured it stayed two points ahead of Barcelona after the defending champion moved into second place with a 1-0 win over bottom-side Granada.

Davis off to historic start: New Orleans star Anthony Davis is the first player in three decades to open a season with back-to-back games of at least 40 points.

Davis had 50 points on Wednesday against Denver, and followed that up with 45 more on Friday against Golden State – with the Pelicans losing both of those games.

Britcher wins USA Luge national title: Summer Britcher rallied to win her first USA Luge national championship, holding off Emily Sweeney at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

Britcher trailed Sweeney going into the fourth and final run of the event, then threw down her fastest time of the weekend to clinch the title.

Medvedeva wins Skate Canada: Russia’s world champion Evgenia Medvedeva won Skate Canada in Mississauga, Ontrario with 220.65 points.

The leader after the short program easily outdistanced Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond, who got 206.45 points, a career best.
