Around the remote: Dance with Lochte, Vanilla Ice

By Chuck Barney Tribune News Service

DON’T MISS: “Dancing With the Stars” – Welcome to the next stop on the Ryan Lochte apology tour. The disgraced Olympian joins 12 other celebrities in the ballroom, where he won’t be able to fabricate anything. The Season 23 cast also includes former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Vanilla Ice, Laurie Hernandez and Maureen McCormick, aka Marcia Brady. 8 p.m. Monday, ABC.

Other bets

SUNDAY: And now for something weirdly different: “Son of Zorn” is a hybrid comedy that combines animation with live action. In the opener, Zorn (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a Thor-like cartoon warrior from a faraway island, returns to California to win back his very human ex-wife and teen son. 8 p.m., Fox.

SUNDAY: Break out the sashes and tiaras. It’s time for the “2017 Miss America Competition,” celebrating its 96th year. Chris Harrison and Sage Steele host the event from Atlantic City. 9 p.m., ABC.

SUNDAY: As “Masters of Sex” returns, bras are burning and sex is everywhere, thanks to a revolution that Masters (Michael Sheen) and Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) helped fuel. Now, our warring researchers must realize they’re a team, whether they like it or not. 10 p.m., Showtime.

MONDAY: They busted their moves and strutted their stuff. Tonight, one of the final four contestants on “So You Think You Can Dance” will waltz away with the Season 13 crown. But not before suffering through a bloated two-hour finale. 8 p.m., Fox.

TUESDAY: “The Contenders – 16 for ’16” is a compelling series that recalls the blunders and twists of fate from past 50 years of presidential election history, and examines how previous campaigns are still influencing politics. 8 p.m., PBS.

WEDNESDAY: Last year’s turbocharged hit, “Blindspot,” returns for Season 2 and the FBI now wants Jane (Jaimie Alexander) to be a triple agent. The opener introduces Archie Panjabi (“The Good Wife”) as an NSA agent who has been secretly tracking the Jane Doe case. 10 p.m., NBC.

WEDNESDAY: The theme for Season 6 of “American Horror Story” has been a mystery all summer as producers have trolled us with misleading trailers. Tonight, we finally get some answers as the over-the-top creep show returns. 10 p.m., FX.

THURSDAY: Some shows apparently never go out of style. “Project Runway” returns for its 15th season as a new batch of designers try to “make it work.” 9 p.m., Lifetime.

FRIDAY: The zombie dramedy “Z Nation” launches Season 3 with a two-hour opener and we’re told that things are going to get really “cray-Z.” We wouldn’t want it any other way. 8 p.m., Syfy.

SATURDAY: The high-profile trophies won’t be handed out until next week, but tonight we’ve got the “Creative Arts Emmy Awards.” If you’re into makeup, picture editing, sound mixing, and similarly thrilling categories, have at it. 8 p.m., FXX.
