Lewis and Clark pounds rival North Central 44-26

Lewis and Clark got three touchdowns from Cameron Duncan and pounded North Central 44-26 Thursday at Joe Albi Stadium in a crossover game between Greater Spokane League 4A and 3A rivals.

Behind Duncan, who had 117 yards on 17 carries, the Tigers pounced early on the Indians and raced to a 30-8 halftime lead. The Indians (1-4 overall) got going in the second half, but they couldn’t catch the Tigers.

“I’m proud of our kids. They played hard,” LC coach Dave Hughes said. “Cameron Duncan is a difference maker.”

Facing a second-and-15, Duncan took a handoff and weaved, juked and cut his way to a 22-yard touchdown to give his team a 14-0 lead with 2:22 remaining in the first quarter.

“I just saw open field,” Duncan said. “I just thought, ‘Run.’ It’s always fun to get a win over North Central. They always play us tough.”

The Tigers (2-3) started hot, cooled off, then again found their groove in the first half as they pounded North Central for a 30-8 lead.

After Josh Via ripped off a 42-yard run to set the Tigers up, Duncan pounded it in from 2 yards out to give LC a 7-0 lead.

NC finally got something going while facing a fourth-and-2. Michael Stacy took the handoff and found a hole en route to a 62-yard touchdown scamper. Stacy also scored the two-point conversion to make it a 14-8 Tigers lead.

LC added a Nick Davis 31-yard field goal; a 1-yard touchdown by Dan Clary; and a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown by Michael Flaherty to make it 30-8 at halftime.

The Indians got two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Matt Hickey and another by Khanian Charlton in the second half. But Duncan answered with his third score and Via hit Xavier Gulliory for a 35-yard touchdown pass for LC to keep the Indians at bay.

The Indians “got some point in the second half. Their kids played well and they executed,” Hughes said. “But we are happy with the win.”
