Area roundup: CC Spokane baseball takes pair from Blue Mountain

From staff and wire reports

Ryan Byrd struck out 12 over seven shutout innings and Rylee Peterson homered in the second game to lead CC Spokane to a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Blue Mountain at SFCC on Wednesday.

Byrd gave up six hits and walked one for the Sasquatch (11-8) in the 10-0 pasting of the Timberwolves (12-12-1). CCS pounded out 13 hits and gathered two walks.

Peterson went 1 for 3 with a two-run shot and finished with three RBIs. Zach Day went 2 for 4 with a pair driven in while Jordan Ross and Mitchell Cox added a pair of hits apiece.

The Sasquatch got things going in the third. Isaac Werland led off with a single and moved up after Bennett Tabaracci was hit. Day followed with a single that plated Werland. Nolan Wasson then singled and Tabaracci came around on an error by the Blue Mountain pitcher. A Peterson sacrifice fly brought home Day to make it 3-0.

CCS exploded for five runs in the fourth. Peterson’s homer came on a 1-0 pitch with Wasson aboard via base on balls. Cox had and RBI single and another run came across on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

In the first game, the Sasquatch used a four-run rally in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 decision. Peterson had an RBI single, Ross walked to force in a run and Brian Hill delivered the big blow, a two-run single to cap the inning. Ross finished 3 for 4 and Peterson added a pair of hits.

Kade Woods went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Stephen Streltzoff struck out six in two one-hit innings of relief.
