Education notebook: ‘Doll Shop’ a North Central tradition

North Central’s “The Doll Shop” hits the stage for the 87th year, consisting of nearly 300 members, including students, staff and their family members.

Elsa Pinkham, original founder of this play, believed that any student who wanted to perform should have the chance to. Pinkham produced the show 14 times every other year for 28 years until she retired in the late 1950s.

In 1984, NCHS’s drama teacher, Tom Armitage, brought the show back to continue the tradition but scheduled it every three years. After this spring’s production, Armitage will have directed 11 shows over the course of 33 years and is retiring.

Performances will be April 27-29 and May 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. on April 29.

Tickets will go on sale Monday at the school’s business office, (509) 354-6240. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for senior citizens/GSL card holders.
