Earth Day celebration in Riverfront Park this weekend

The annual Earth Day celebration is planned for Saturday and Sunday in Riverfront Park, but construction in the park has forced the relocation of the event to the Pavillion and the adjacent Central Meadow.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The event includes vendors, family activities, face painting and over 50 performance acts, including musicians and dancers. One of the highlights is the Procession of Species parade at 1:30 p.m., where people are invited to dress up as their favorite animal.

Sunday’s events include a poetry reading from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pavillion hosted by Spokane poet Dennis Held. There will be three minute open mike sessions available for people who would like to read their poetry.

The festival is free, but there is a $20 admission charge for the Earth Night concert from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
