Freeman stays undefeated in league behind strong pitching

Freeman (9-2, 6-0) continued its perfect league season this week with a pair of shutouts over Medical Lake and a win over Newport. Coach Chad Ripke’s squad features a strong pitching staff and the Scotties have outscored their Northeast A League opponents 83-3, with one of the runs against unearned.

Outside of league, the Scotties also own a win over 4A Ferris (Greater Spokane League) and 2A Cheney (Great Northern League).

Last Friday, the Scotties jumped out quickly – scoring five runs in the first and 10 in the second – to hand Medical Lake an 18-0 loss. Freeman pounded out 17 hits, while Desmond Parisotto and Simon Rooney combined on a one-hitter. J.T. Neely went 4 for 5 with two runs and an RBI, and Rooney added two hits and drove in three. Parisotto bumped his season record to 3-0.

Freeman followed that up on Saturday with a 13-0 shutout over Medical Lake (4-2, 4-2). Koby Kent and McKabe Cottrell (4-0) combined on a two-hitter – and Cottrell added a home run. Rooney tripled with an RBI and Neely added a double as the Scotties scored six in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule.

Jace Phelan hit a three-run triple in the first inning and finished with five RBIs in a 13-1 win over Newport (3-2, 3-2) on Wednesday. Michael Coumant and Phelan limited the Grizzlies to two hits while Parisotto went 3 for 3 with a double.

Freeman takes its perfect league record against Riverside (1-6, 1-5) on Saturday in a doubleheader.

Greater Spokane League

Mt. Spokane (16-0, 14-0) stayed undefeated with three more wins this week. The Wildcats beat Shadle Park (9-6, 9-4) 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Tuesday. Brady Hill’s two-run double in the seventh forced extra innings, then Shadle went up 4-3 on Dalton Dawson’s ninth inning home run. But in the bottom of the inning, Mikey Tsuchida doubled home a run to tie it and Gabe Martin singled to bring home the winning run.

Mt. Spokane then swept a doubleheader against University, 8-4 and 6-0, on Friday. Cole Hattenburg and Stu Flesland combined on a two-hitter in the shutout. Gabe Martin had six hits and five runs with two stolen bases in the twin-bill.

Second-place Central Valley (10-4, 10-3) fell three games back with a 2-1 loss to Shadle on Friday. Griffin Bacon struck out five in eight innings for the Highlanders.

Great Northern League

League-leading West Valley (11-4, 6-2) took a pair from Pullman (4-4, 4-3) on Saturday, and followed that with a 2-1 win over Cheney (2-9, 0-8) on Wednesday. In the doubleheader, Jaxson Imada earned the win in the early game and went 4 for 4 with two runs in the second game. Second-place Clarkston (7-3, 4-2) swept a doubleheader from East Valley (4-6, 4-3) on Saturday. Kaden Buckner had two doubles in the first game and four RBIs in the late game. East Valley swept Cheney on Friday.

Northeast A

Second-place Chewelah (7-1, 5-1) fell against Deer Park (6-2, 4-2) on Saturday but bounced back behind Ryder Robison’s eight strikeouts over six innings to beat Lakeside (2-8, 1-5) 5-0 on Tuesday and trounced Medical Lake 9-1 on Friday.

Northeast 2B

North Division leader Northwest Christian (9-4, 6-0) swept a doubleheader from Wilbur-Creston (7-7, 3-5) on Saturday and took two more from Reardan (1-11, 1-9) on Tuesday. Kettle Falls (12-1, 7-1) took its first loss of the season on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with St. George’s (7-4, 6-2). The Dragons’ Alex Watkins posted a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in a 1-0 win, while Kettle Falls’ Cade McKern struck out seven over six innings in the second game. Colfax (10-1, 8-0) swept a doubleheader from Tekoa-Rosalia (2-12, 2-9) on Tuesday, then beat Colton 7-1 on Friday. Danny Robinson earned the win in the first game of the T-R doubleheader with eight strikeouts and went 4 for 4 at the plate. He doubled and tripled in both games. Asotin (10-5, 6-2) broke up a three-game losing streak by sweeping two from Reardan on Saturday.

Northeast 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (12-0, 10-0) continued its perfect season sweeping doubleheaders from Cusick (6-2, 6-2) on Saturday and Odessa-Harrington (10-4, 6-2) on Tuesday. Dalton Kentner struck out nine in a 5-1 win in the opener against O-H and went 4 for 5 with two doubles in the second, a 19-13 win. Selkirk (7-4, 6-2) took a pair from Northport (3-9, 3-7) on Wednesday. Calvin Petrich hit a three-run homer in the first game and Peter McAnerin struck out nine over four innings in the second.

Idaho

Coeur d’Alene (8-5, 3-3) split a doubleheader with Lewiston (10-4, 2-2) on Wednesday and lost both ends of a doubleheader to Post Falls (8-6, 4-3) on Friday. Lake City (6-4, 2-2) and Post Falls split on Wednesday while the Timberwolves split with Lewiston on Saturday.
