Jimmy Vee, the actor best known for his work on “Pan” and “Doctor Who,” is our new R2-D2.

Vee will play the droid in this December’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the eighth episode in the main cinematic storyline, he said in a statement from the Oh So Small production agency.

Vee fills the costume made iconic by Kenny Baker, who died last August in his native England, at age 81. Baker originated the role.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside the legendary Kenny Baker,” Vee said in his statement. “Kenny was a fantastic actor and taught me all the ‘tricks’ on how he brought R2-D2 to life, which I will continue to portray in his honor.”

Vee, who has done uncredited work for “The Force Awakens” and Harry Potter films, added: “I’m so excited to be a part of the ‘Star Wars’ universe and can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working so hard on for the last year.”

“Last Jedi” hits theaters Dec. 15.
