Killian Tillie’s big game not enough as France falls to Canada at U19 World Cup

France’s unbeaten run at the FIBA U19 World Cup came to an end Friday, despite the best efforts of Gonzaga’s Killian Tillie.

The sophomore forward poured in 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in France’s 73-67 loss to Canada in the quarterfinals in Cairo.

Tillie followed up a field goal with a steal and dunk to cut Canada’s lead to 67-62 with 1:13 remaining.

Tillie made 10 of 16 field-goal attempts and 2 of 5 free throws in a team-high 37 minutes. He finished with two steals, two assists and six turnovers.

Tillie entered the game shooting 38.3 percent and averaging 10 points and 7.3 rebounds.

France will face Germany, which lost 81-59 to the United States, on Saturday in a classification game. Canada meets the U.S. in a semifinal on Saturday.
