Whitworth splits baseball doubleheader

Garrett Hughes and Jordan McGowan both hit grand slams and the Pirates (12-9) salvaged the second game of a nonconference doubleheader against the Blues (11-12) with a 12-7 victory in Walla Walla.

Hughes went 4 for 4 with six RBIs.

In the first game, a Northwest Conference makeup from Feb. 26, Pirates right fielder Jacob Silva hit a solo homer in the 4-2 loss.
