Oregon community remembers police veteran killed on duty

SALEM – Law enforcement officers are mourning a Seaside police officer killed over a year ago.

The Statesman Journal reported Sgt. Jason Goodding was honored at the Fallen Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Ceremony on Tuesday. He died at 39 years old after he was fatally shot while serving a warrant last February. He had served the Seaside Police Department for 13 years.

Goodding’s name was added to the memorial at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem. He was the 183rd Oregon officer who was died in the line of duty since the 1800s.

Seaside Police Chief Dave Ham remembers Goodding as an exceptional leader and mentor. He read a prepared letter from Goodding’s family at the ceremony that says they’ve receives countless letters of support since his death.
