2 problem bears killed near Missoula, Eureka

Associated Press

MISSOULA, Mont. – Two bears have been killed in separate incidents in western Montana.

A resident of the upper Rattlesnake neighborhood north of Missoula shot and killed a black bear in his backyard.

The Missoulian reports the bear may have become habituated to human food. Jamie Jonkel of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says someone had been throwing hotdogs or slices of bread to it.

The resident shot the bear on Thursday night when it came up to his porch.

Also Thursday, FWP officials captured a 3-year-old grizzly bear near Eureka that had killed eight sheep.

The Daily Inter Lake reports the bear had previously been captured and released.

FWP officials say they euthanized the bear.
