Education notebook: East Valley students earn AP Scholar status

Recently, 14 East Valley High School students earned AP Scholar status for academic excellence on Advanced Placement exams.

Preston Carlson qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Preston Carlson, Nathan Neilsen and Tiffany Stine qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Karlee Ludwig, Matthew Mason, Alyssa Mitchell and Katharine Pointer qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Jasmin Andrade-Lenz, Shannon Frucci, Jason Gillingham, Randy McDonald, Kelsy Ross and Darion Runkle qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher.

St. George’s drama presents

Disney’s musical ‘Little Mermaid’

St. George’s School presents a musical, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Founder’s Theater on the school campus.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.

The cast includes Susie Jones (Ariel), Jaxon Spackman (Prince Eric), Pete O’Brien (King Triton), Hailey Poutiatine (Ursula the Sea Witch), Ryan Hayes (Sebastian), Delaney Ennis (Scuttle), Nathan Henning (Flounder), Will Rieger (Grimsby), Alec Nittolo (Chef Louis), Katie Thew (Flotsam) and Rona Smith (Jetsam).

The princesses are played by Kuhu Amin (Arista), Alex Gustafson (Andrina), Caroline He (Allana), Reagan Ivey (Atina), Olivia Osborne (Aquata) and Kaitlyn Vera (Adella).

In assorted sea creatures and other roles are Sydney Bledsoe, Sonya Daniel, Peyton Dixon, Kelsey Doughty, Anna Field, Catherine Field, John Nowland, Skyler Peplinski, Braxton Rickard, Maximus Rickard and Annie Sawyer.

70 Inland NW educators receive STCU classroom supply grants

On World Teachers’ Day/National Do Something Nice Day, 70 educators from 21 Washington and Idaho school districts were awarded $250 classroom supply grants from STCU to welcome educators back to school.

In November, an additional 12 winners will be drawn after Spokane Public Schools’ annual benefits fair, where Spokane’s classroom staff can enter the drawing.
