Football roundup: Gonzaga Prep earns second seed in GSL 4A with win over Mead

Connor Halonen ran for 196 yards on 16 carries and Gonzaga Prep (7-2, 4-1) defeated visiting Mead (4-5, 2-3) 48-6 to earn second place in the 4A Greater Spokane League on Friday.

G-Prep will host Mid-Columbia Conference No. 2 seed Chiawana on Friday in the District 8 playoffs.

Mead, University and Lewis and Clark will compete in a three-way tiebreaker on Tuesday. The winner will advance to play Richland, the Mid-Columbia Conference winner, on Friday in the District 8 playoffs.

Devin Culp added 133 yards on eight carries with touchdown runs of 49 and 5 yards – both in the second half. Kasey Anthony added 85 yards and three touchdowns on the ground for the Bullpups.

Kannon Katzer rushed 17 times for 105 yards for Mead.

G-Prep got out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Mead’s Ryan Chan scored on a 1-yard plunge to keep the Panthers in the game early.

The second quarter was all G-Prep though, as Anthony rumbled for two short TDs and the Bullpups blocked a punt for another score and a 34-6 lead at the break.

University 31, Ferris 12: Terrell Sanders carried 23 times for 164 yards with a touchdown and University ensured its place in a three-way tiebreaker for the third Greater Spokane League 4A playoff seed with a 31-12 win over visiting Ferris.

U-Hi broke out to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter and led 31-0 at intermission. The Titans’ Gavin Wolcott went 10 of 13 for 172 yards with three touchdown passes and rushed for 26 yardson four carries. Daniel Johnson had three catches for 94 yards with two touchdowns.

Kwame Qadir went 11 of 16 for 112 yards with a touchdown pass and rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries for the Saxons.

Great Northern League

Pullman 56, East Valley 12: T.J. Newman ran for 19 yards with three touchdowns and Pullman (5-3, 3-1) dominated visiting East Valley (3-5, 2-2) 56-12. Jed Byers added 173 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Pullman. Isaiah Ervin ran for 82 yards with a touchdown for East Valley.

West Valley 38, Clarkston 7: Blake Transue threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns and the Eagles (9-0, 4-0) rolled past visiting Clarkston (4-4, 1-3) 38-7. Collin Sather piled up 139 scrimmage yards and two receiving scores for the Eagles. Conner Whitney added two touchdowns for the Eagles, one on a 90-yard interception return.

Northeast 1A

Lakeside (WA) 42, Medical Lake 8: Kasen Hunsaker tossed four touchdown passes and the visiting Eagles (5-3, 4-3) topped the Cardinals (0-9, 0-7) 42-8. Keaton Nowak added TD runs of 2 and 1 yards and caught a 20-yard scoring pass.

Freeman 23, Riverside 9: Andrew McGill caught a 52-yard touchdown pass and the Scotties (6-3, 5-2) rolled past visiting Riverside (4-5, 2-5) 23-0. Keegan Catrell recovered a fumble for a 17 yard score for the Scotties.

Colville 35, Chewelah 6

Newport 27, Deer Park 25: Lucas Keller’s two-point conversion pass with 38 seconds remaining fell incomplete and visiting Newport (7-1, 6-1) escaped with a 27-25 win over Deer Park (5-4, 3-4). Koa Pancho racked up 300 yards from scrimmage with three touchdowns for Newport. Tyson Lim ran for 56 yards with two scores for the Stags.

Northeast 2B

Asotin 42, Wilbur-Creston 16: Colton Ball rushed for 144 yards with four touchdowns and visiting Asotin (7-3) defeated Wilbur-Creston (3-7) 42-16. Brayden Seylor hauled in a pair of touchdowns on 70 yards receiving for Wilbur-Creston.

Liberty 41, Springdale 6: Brandon Holling hauled in 116 receiving yards with three touchdowns and Liberty (9-0) defeated Springdale (1-8) 41-6. Alec Fletcher threw for 171 passing yards with three touchdowns for Liberty, while teammate James Heer ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 27, Reardan 12: Bryce Kelly threw for 166 yards with three touchdowns and visiting Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (4-5) beat Reardan (4-5) 27-12. Mason Brausen ran for 108 yards and Austin Thompson had 72 receiving yards and a touchdown for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Colfax 46, Kettle Falls 0: Christopher Jones rushed for 77 yards with a touchdown and Colfax (6-3) rolled past visiting Kettle falls (0-9) 46-0.

Northeast 1B

Selkirk 40, Northport 20: Jay Link ran for 83 yards with two touchdowns and threw for 128 yards with a touchdown and visiting Selkirk (8-2, 5-2) beat Northport (2-8, 1-6). Kade Middlesworth threw for 87 yards and a touchdown and ran for 88 yards and a touchdown for Northport.

Odessa 64, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 54: Colton Hunt rolled up 220 all-purpose yards with four touchdowns and the Titans (9-0, 6-0) came from behind to beat Almira/Coulee-Hartline (7-3, 5-2). Gavin Elder added 141 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Odessa. Maguire Isaak accounted for six touchdowns, two rushing and four passing for the Titans.

Columbia 86, Curlew 46: Columbia (6-4, 4-3) ran for 10 touchdowns and they beat Curlew (2-7, 2-5) 86-46.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 82, Colton 40: Evan Weagraff ran for 343 yards and six touchdowns and Garfield-Palouse (6-1, 3-1) defeated Colton (6-3, 2-2).
