Volleyball: Jill Groves helps Shadle Park outlast Mt. Spokane in opener

Jill Groves had 30 assists to help visiting Shadle Park (1-0) outlast Mt. Spokane (0-1) in five games (15-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13) in a Greater Spokane League opening match on Tuesday night.

Sophia Votava had 11 kills and Amy Turbak added 19 digs for the Highlanders.

Miahna Waters had 22 kills, Katie Maher added 27 assists and Tia Allen chipped in with 19 digs for the Wildcats.

Northeast A

Freeman 3, Medical Lake 0: Eva Knight had nine kills, Justis Wells had eight aces and Freeman opened its season sweeping Medical Lake (25-11, 25-6, 25-6) in Rockford.

Colville 3, Deer Park 0: Katelyn Petrey recorded 13 kills, six aces and six digs as Colville (1-0) swept visiting Deer Park (0-1) (25-15, 25-12, 25-20) in the season opener for both teams. Taylor Tarble led the Stags with 11 kills and three aces.

Nonleague

Northwest Christian 3, Rogers 0: Akon Aleu had 13 digs and seven kills but Rogers (0-1) was swept by Class 2B Northwest Christian (1-0) (25-18, 25-12, 25-23).

Colfax 3, Genesee 0: Carmen Gfeller earned 16 kills, five aces and 13 digs for Colfax (1-0) in a three-set victory over Genesee (0-1).

Oakesdale 3, Wilbur-Creston 0: Logan Reed recorded 17 kills and led visiting Oakesdale (1-0) to a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-8, 25-21) over Wilbur-Creston (0-1). Alicia Johnson had 11 digs for the Wildcats.

Liberty 3, St. John-Endicott 1: Maisie Burnham put down 16 kills and four aces to boost Liberty (1-0) over St. John-Endicott (11-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19). Aleena Cook had five blocks for the Lancers and Jadyn Corder paced the Eagles (0-1) with eight kills, six aces and 12 digs.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 3, Columbia-Burbank 1: Lacey Miller dished out 20 assists for Lind-Ritzville-Sprague (1-0) as they beat visiting Columbia-Burbank 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18). Peyton Curtis added eight kills for the Broncos.

Lake City 3, Sandpoint 0: Klaire Mitchell had 31 assists and four aces as Lake City (1-0) beat Sandpoint in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) in a nonleague match. Grace Hicks led the Bulldogs with nine kills.

Lakeland 3, Timberlake 0: Mattisyn Cope had 15 kills, Keely DeVore added 27 assists and Lakeland (1-1) swept visiting Timberlake (0-1) (25-17, 25-11, 35-33) in a nonleague match on Tuesday. Mckeeley Tonkin paced Timberlake with six kills and 17 assists.

Lakeside (ID) 3, Coeur d’Alene Charter 2: Alyssa SiJohn had 42 assists to lead Lakeside (ID) (1-2) to a 3-2 win (16-25, 25-17, 7-25, 25-16, 15-13) over visiting Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-1). Tenley Lambert chipped in 21 digs and five kills for Lakeside.

Clark Fork 3, Kootenai 0: Brooke Stevens tallied 24 assists and 10 digs to help visiting Clark Fork (5-0, 1-0) sweep Kootenai (0-1, 0-1) (25-18, 25-21, 25-12) in a North Star League opener for both teams. Hailey Bristol had 10 kills for Clark Fork.
