“Woven Coverlets” - Woven coverlets often graced early American beds and were actually more common than quilts. Until the 1830s, Overshot coverlets were commonly woven at home on hand looms. Then, fancy and figured coverlets - woven by professional weavers and featuring a variety of motifs - were popular up until the Civil War. In this program, participants will closely examine selected pieces from the museum’s collection of 19th century woven coverlets. Examples will include Overshot coverlets and fancy and figured coverlets. Textile researcher Dana Fobes Bowne will also discuss the historical context of the coverlets. There will be an opportunity to visit the textile collection storage at the end of the program. 2 p.m.-midnight. Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 W. First Ave. $35. (509) 363-5324.
