Local mom Cheree Sauer finds joy in her family, but she will be the first to admit that motherhood is a journey.

Through her new company, Heartfelt Mamas, Sauer will distribute gift boxes designed by a mom, for moms. She’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to help get her company off the ground.

Sauer’s mission is to provide a bright spot for hard-working moms by showing them that they are valued. The gift boxes contain a variety of local products to “make a mama feel loved, cared for and appreciated,” she said.

“My goal is to really provide a space and a community for moms to realize that they are not the only ones struggling and to help a moms support network have ways that they can help encourage her and lift her up,” Sauer said.

Five years ago, when Sauer was a new mom, she brought food and bath and body products to a friend who was also a new mother. From this, the idea for Heartfelt Mamas was born. “It just brought me so much joy to be able to deliver that and just uplift her,” she said.

Last year, Sauer began to attend business classes to make her idea a reality.

Sauer has boxes for postpartum mothers, mothers of children with special needs, grieving mothers, mothers who have suffered miscarriages and the “Everyday Mama” gift box, for mothers in all different walks of life.

Each box includes locally sourced products, including tea from Winterwoods Tea Company, snacks from Sister Bees Kitchen, body care products from Wild June Apothecary and a variety of free yoga and exercise class certificates.

Sauer’s goal is to raise $10,000 by Monday through her Kickstarter campaign. All proceeds will go directly to assembling the gift baskets, purchasing the necessary shipping boxes and the local products in large quantities.

Sauer also plans to hold retreats tailored to mothers – she held her first a few weeks ago – and events specific for dads are also in the works.

“I really believe that if we can make a positive impact on mamas we can make a positive impact on children and families and ultimately our society,” Sauer said.
