Son injures mother in Okanogan County attempted murder-suicide

A shooting in Brewster, Wash. left a woman injured and a young man dead in an apparent attempted murder-suicide.

On Sunday at around 10 a.m., the Brewster Police Department and deputies with the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 500 block of North Star Road, where callers reported a young man with a gun, according to a news release.

Upon arriving, law enforcement learned 19-year-old Mike Aguirre-Bobadilla shot his 41-year-old mother Ernestina Aguirre-Bobadilla in the mouth in front of the woman’s 10-year-old daughter. Witnesses said Mike Aguirre-Bobadilla was “acting strangely” before he grabbed a gun from inside the residence.

Ernestina Aguirre-Bobadilla was able to get her 10 year old daughter and run for help. Mike Aguirre-Bobadilla was discovered by deputies inside the home with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the news release.

He was transported to Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster, where he died of his injuries.

Ernestina Aguirre-Bobadilla was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where she was in serious condition Monday morning. Her 10-year-old daughter was not injured.
