Man facing vehicular assault charges after allegedly causing head-on collision on Upriver Drive

From staff reports

A man faces possible vehicular assault charges after police say he crossed the center line Tuesday evening on Upriver Drive and crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle while driving intoxicated.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Upriver between Crestline and Greene streets, police said in a news release. The incident closed the roadway for several hours while police investigated.

Officers say the man driving a pickup westbound on Upriver crossed into the eastbound lanes, colliding with an SUV head on. The crash injured a passenger in the truck. The driver of the SUV was treated and released at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, however, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Once released, police say he will likely face vehicular assault chargers as he is believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
