Spokane felon gets 25 years for killing roommate, dumping her body into recycling bin

A man convicted of killing his 79-year-old roommate and dumping her body into a recycling bin has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Eugene A. Jupp, 54, appeared last Friday before Superior Court Judge Raymond Clary after he was previously convicted on Feb. 21 of second-degree murder in connection to the killing of 79-year-old Stephanie Standen, whose body was discovered on April 4, 2018, on a conveyor belt by workers at the SMaRT Recycling Center on Geiger Road.

Several days after Standen was found, Jupp turned himself into police after first walking into KHQ News’s headquarters.

According to court records, Jupp beat Standen to death and put her body in the home’s recycling bin to discard the evidence because he didn’t own a car. Detectives had to use the recycling truck’s route to eventually discover where Standen was living.

Jupp, who maintained his innocence, had several prior felony and dozens of misdemeanor convictions before to his arrest for Standen’s killing.
