Ring in 2020 at one of these celebrations

A collection of New Year’s Eve events, plus a concert announcement from Tech N9ne.

Beethoven’s Ninth

Eleven years ago, Eckart Preu established the Spokane Symphony’s New Year’s Eve tradition of performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Though the 2018 performance was his last with the symphony, the tradition, as Preu hoped it would, is continuing on.

This year, Morihiko Nakahara will lead the symphony and the Spokane Symphony Chorale, featuring soprano Amy Porter, mezzo-soprano Patti Mortier, tenor Stephen Rumph and baritone Charles Robert Stephens, at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox on Tuesday.

“I think it’s really a great thing for an orchestra to be part of the final thought of the year,” Preu told The Spokesman-Review in 2018. “I think it reflects well on the organization but it also reflects on the importance of the music and the orchestra in people’s lives.”

If you go: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave.; $14-$35, available through www.foxtheaterspokane.org.

Puttin’ on the Ritz

Another New Year’s tradition for the symphony is Puttin’ on the Ritz, a fundraiser presented by the Spokane Symphony Associates.

Attendees in their best black tie or dressy cocktail attire will walk the paparazzi-lined red carpet, escorted by gentlemen in tails, then enjoy a three-course dinner, plus salad and dinner. There will also be three no-host bars.

MasterClass Big Band will perform, as will Elvis Presley tribute artist Ben Klein and illusionist Taylor Kyle. Then, ring in the new year with a glass of complimentary champagne, party favors and door prize drawings.

If you go: 9 p.m. Tuesday; Historic Davenport Hotel, Hall of Doges and Grand Pennington Ballroom, 10 S. Post St.; $150, available through www.spokanesymphony.org.

Sammy Eubanks

Local bluesman Sammy Eubanks will headline a New Year’s Eve Pre-Funk Party at the Bing Crosby Theater on Tuesday. Low Class Bluegrass and Trailer Park Girls will also perform.

This performance will close out a big year for Eubanks, who in January took second place in the 35th International Blues Challenge with his band the Work’in Class.

“All the people that helped make this possible, all the people that support us all day everyday, year after year, they’re the reason we do what we do,” Eubanks told The Spokesman-Review.

If you go: 6 p.m. Tuesday; The Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave.; $17; $12 each when you purchase four or more, available through www.bingcrosbytheater.com.
