Area roundup: Mikayla Ferenz sets Big Sky scoring record in Idaho win over Portland State

Mikayla Ferenz broke the Big Sky career scoring record Thursday as she scored 14 points in Idaho’s 81-68 women’s basketball win over host Portland State.

Ferenz’s tally gives her 2,298 points, two ahead of the record set by Idaho State’s Natalie Doma in 2008.

Ferenz hit four 3-pointers and also tallied eight assists and six rebounds. She has three regular-season games and the postseason to add to her mark.

Taylor Pierce led the Vandals (17-9, 14-3 Big Sky Conference) with 22 points, including six 3s. Gina Marxen added 17 points and Lizzy Klinker totaled 12 points and eight rebounds.

Kylie Jimenez led the Vikings (20-6, 12-5) with 15 points. Courtney West added 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The Vandals travel to Sacramento State on Saturday.

Eastern Washington 71, Sacramento State 62: Violet Kapri Morrow scored 21 points to lead the Eagles (10-16, 9-8 Big Sky) to a win over the Hornets (10-15, 6-10) in Sacramento, California.

Jess White-McDowll added 12 points and Alissa Sealby scored 11 for EWU, which picked up its third straight win. Bella Cravens added 15 rebounds and five blocks.

Gabi Bade paced Sacramento State with 23 points.

The Eagles visit Portland State on Saturday.

CC Spokane 71, Blue Mountain 35: Shania Graham scored 20 points, including 6 of 8 3-pointers, and the Sasquatch (17-11, 6-10 Northwest Athletic Conference) closed out the regular season by defeating the Timberwolves (3-22, 1-14) at Spokane Falls CC.

Koyama Young totaled 17 points and six rebounds for CCS, which halted a four-game losing skid.

Brooke Wheeler notched 16 points to lead Blue Mountain.

The draw for the NWAC Tournament will take place on Sunday. The Sweet 16 will follow on March 7.

Men

Dedrick Pakootas scored 19 points, Jamal Alstrom added 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and CC Spokane beat Blue Mountain 121-77 at Spokane Falls CC to finish off the regular season.

JR Delgado also scored 16 and Garrett White had 15 points for the Sasquatch (20-9, 11-5), who made 19 3-pointers and had six players score in double figures.

Dylan Grogan totaled 18 points and Jeremiah Hillard scored 17 for the Timberwolves (4-22, 2-13).
