Prep boys soccer: Central Valley advances to semifinal on late goal; No. 8 Gonzaga Prep upsets Chiawana

Taylor Leach scored in the 80th minute and second-seeded Central Valley edged seventh-seeded Richland in a District 8 4A first-round match at Albi Stadium on Thursday.

The Bears (10-2-0) play Pasco in a semifinal at Gonzaga Prep on Saturday, while the Bombers (8-6-0) face Lewis and Clark in a loser-out at Albi.

Reece Bumgarner evened CV at 1-1 with a penalty-kick goal just before halftime and Adam Jones made it 2-1 in the 50th minute. Logan Coddington made four saves for the Bears.

Pasco 3, Lewis and Clark 2: The third-seeded Bulldogs (12-3-0) beat the sixth-seeded Tigers (8-6-2) at Edgar Brown Stadium.

Gonzaga Prep 2, Chiawana 0: Johnny Finnegan and Chris Peretti each scored a goal, Mason Brock had nine saves, and the eighth-seeded Bullpups (10-7-0) upset the top-seeded Riverhawks (11-4-0).

G-Prep advances to play at Ferris in a semifinal on Saturday. Chiawana will host Walla Walla in a loser-out game.

Ferris 2, Walla Walla 0: Solomon Katumbi and Caden Martin scored, Jadon Bowton had seven saves, and the fourth-seeded Saxons (14-2-0) blanked the fifth-seeded Blue Devils (8-6-0) at G-Prep.

3A first round

Kennewick 3, Mt. Spokane 1: Sandro Cruz scored two second-half goals and the visiting fifth-seeded Lions (6-8-0) beat the fourth-seeded Wildcats (6-10-0).

Kennewick plays top-seeded Hermiston (Oregon) on Saturday. Mt. Spokane faces a loser-out match on Tuesday.

Kamiakin 3, Shadle Park 1: The third-seeded Braves (9-4-0) beat the sixth-seeded Highlanders (2-10-1).

Kamiakin plays second-seeded North Central on Saturday. Shadle Park faces a loser-out game on Tuesday.

2A first round

Pullman 3, East Valley 0: Will Konkel had a goal and an assist and the third-seeded Greyhounds (6-10-0) eliminated the visiting fourth-seeded Knights (4-11-0).

Pullman travels to Clarkston in the district semifinal on Saturday.

The district title game is Tuesday at regular-season champion Cheney.

Clarkston 7, West Valley 3: Theo Baiye had a hat trick, Steve Baiye had two goals and an assists and the second-seeded Bantams (9-4-0) eliminated the visiting fifth-seeded Eagles (1-13-0).

1A first round

Medical Lake 3, Colville 2 (SO): Michael Schwiekart and Carter Pivonka scored in regulation and the second-seeded Cardinals eliminated the third-seeded Indians in a shootout at Spokane Falls Community College. Medical Lake advances to the district championship game on May 8.
