Having worked as an editor in upstate New York for six years before coming to Spokane, I’m very familiar with the record and campaigns of the Empire State’s politically prominent governor, Eliot Spitzer. Monday’s news that the Democrat paid thousands of dollars for a call girl represents a stunning fall from grace for a politician who made a career out of crusading against corruption and ethics violations. He used the New York media at every turn to advance his causes. Using the media to promote one’s political or personal agenda is standard procedure these days. However, as Spitzer is about to learn, the tables have turned. He’ll be eviscerated by the New York media in coming days and weeks. The New York tabloids, among others, will have a field day.
