But it was worse than a missing boat. Much worse, as Peterson would soon find out. I don’t think he meant it like that, but that’s what he said.” Two 16-year-old girls were missing: Barbara Horne and Carol Thornton. They were visiting the lake with their families from College Place, near Walla Walla. Wreckage of their boat, a simple 13-foot fiberglass outboard, was found floating on the lake.
