‘Poop Art” Provides Education

Christa Hazel: The kids with the University of Idaho’s STEM Camp pilot program received a tour through the city wastewater treatment plant today. The tour started first around the publicly funded “poop art”. It was such an educational way to start out the tour. Superintendent Sid Frederickson used the sculptures to explain the different types of microorganisms that live at the plant and help clean our water. The sculptures were a tangible visual for kids to see the differences between the microorganisms. They would then be able to take their knowledge and identify those organisms later under a microscope. The poop art gets a lot of crap from the naysayers in town but I gained a deeper appreciation today after seeing what those organisms do for our community. Question: Have you seen the "poop art" yet? Impression?
