Solons Seek Online Commenters’ IDs

Shelby County lawmakers have voted to pursue a subpoena to discover the names of anonymous online commenters. The subpoena seeks the real names of those who commented on stories on The Commercial Appeal’s website about the Memphis school board between November 2010 and July 2012, the newspaper reports. Shelby County Commissioner Terry Roland said the commission is conducting a "witch hunt" to tie some racially charged comments to state lawmakers, The Commercial Appeal reports. Roland proposed a legislation to withdraw the county's subpoena but was defeated. He also withdrew a resolution to fire the commission's law firm, the Memphis office of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz/Nashville Business Journal.
