Huckleberries Hears …

... City Council members Dan Gookin, Steve Adams and Ron Edinger dug in again this morning at a meeting with Lake City Development Corp & Team McEuen, refusing to compromise on moving the American Legion Baseball field. Edinger insisted that the baseball diamond not be moved from McEuen Field unless another field of equal or greater value is built elsewhere, according to a Berry Picker. Adams wanted to delay action on McEuen Field for at least two years. (Either action, of course, would delay work on McEuen Field until after the 2013 municipal election.) The meeting was called to hear a progress report on upgrade planning from Team McEuen. At this point, the city plans to go to bid in August on the new parking facility along Front Avenue and break ground on the project in September. The city plans to go to bid for the rest of the McEuen Field upgrade in January and break ground in February. Mayor Sandi Bloem and three council members -- Deanna Goodlander, Woody McEvers and Mike Kennedy -- survived a recall bid on the McEuen Field upgrade when Mary Souza/Frank Orzell/Kathy Sims failed to get enough valid signatures for one.
