A man who died when his pickup truck rolled early Saturday morning near Rathdrum was identified Tuesday as Brian L. Messerly, 37, of Rathdrum. His son, Kevin L. Messerly, 13, suffered extensive injuries in the crash and was in stable condition Saturday. Emergency crews responded to the crash site, at East Chilco Road and North Hope Valley Road, about 1:50 a.m. Saturday. The truck was traveling eastbound on Chilco Road at a high rate of speed when it left the road and rolled several times, according to an initial investigation by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt and both were ejected. Which one was driving remains under investigation, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Stu Miller said.
