Trio of Spokane movie, uh, treasures?

On the Web site metro(spokane), you’ll find a compilation of the opening scenes of Harold Becker’s 1985 movie “Vision Quest.”

You’ll also find a Google Maps recreation of the improbable route run by the character Louden Swain (Matthew Modine). As the site says, “it's confusing as hell.” But, then, it adds, “Who knows...he was trying to drop a lot of weight to wrestle Shute.”

The site also says, “Vision Quest was probably the best movie ever made in Spokane during the 1980s...ok it was maybe the ONLY movie made in Spokane during the 1980s.”

Wrong. At least two other Spokane-made movies came out of the 1980s: 1980’s “Why Would I Lie” (shot actually in 1979) and home-made filmmaker Gerry Cook’s “Only a Buck” (1987).

Below: See Spokane artist Charlie Schmidt perform in the trailer for Gerry Cook's 1987 shot-in-Spokane film “Only a Buck.”
