Men’s got the club, women’s the darning needle

Here’s my quote for the day. I found it in a Los Angeles Times interview with Susan Faludi, author of the forthcoming book “The Terror Dream: Fear and Fantasy in Post-9/11 America.”

In the book, Faludi’s thesis, wrote Times reporter Maria L. La Ganga, is that “the nation's response to the 2001 attacks was to retreat into a mythological framework that insists the only way for America to be safe is for men to be strong, and the only way for men to be strong is for women to be weak.”

Here’s Faludi’s quote: "Why were we willing ourselves back onto a frontier where pigtailed damsels clutched rag dolls and prayed for a male avenger to return them to the home?"
