The Slice

Ever had parts surgically removed from your parked car overnight?

That has not happened to me in Spokane. But when I lived in El Paso back in a prior century, car-parts thieves regarded the parking lot at my apartment complex as a salvage yard.

I once came outside in the morning to discover that the hood on my Ford Pinto had been removed. Another time, I lost a door-mounted rear-view mirror.

Only I didn't say "fudge."

In any event, it was not the sort of trend conducive to sound sleep.

Roughly speaking, "El Paso" means "The Pass (to the north)." But I occasionally suspected it meant "Paul's 24 Hour U-Pick Parts Shop."

Too bad Marty Robbins didn't write a song about it.
