The Slice

Life coach Al Swearengen

A reader over in Idaho was telling me about a friend of his who had been feeling down.

So the Idaho gentleman sent him a collection of Al Swearengen's observations on life. In case you don't remember, he was a character in HBO's "Deadwood."

A brilliant character, in my estimation.

Anyway, I thought I ought to share some of Al's advice on how to live your life. But there's one problem. The character, played by Ian McShane, never stopped cursing.

But here are a few tidbits. You'll just have to fill in the blanks.

1. "Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or ####### beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man...and give some back."

2. "In life, you have to do a lot of things you don't ####### want to do. Many times, that's what the #### life is...one vile ####### task after another."

3. "Oh, don't tell me how to talk in my own ####### place! Now, here's my counter offer to your counter offer: Go #### yourself."
