Shadle’s Hester resigns as football coach
Mark Hester has resigned after 15 years as football coach at Shadle Park. He was third-longest tenured coach this year in the Greater Spokane League.
I was here for 15 years and that was plenty of time," Hester said. "It was a great opportunity here. I enjoyed working with the kids, being around my assistants and had great supported from the administration and student body."
Hester had a 27-year career record of 121-130 as head coach at Sedro Woolley, Liberty (Issaquah) and Shadle. His Sedro-Woolley teams qualified for state three times, reaching the state finals in 1983 and semifinals in 1986. At Shadle his teams made five post-season appearances, including a state qualifying GSL champion in 1999 after going winless the year before.
But the Highlanders had struggled to a 13-37 record the last five seasons, leaving him 51-85 for his Shadle tenure. They were 1-9 this year in the midst of parental pressure.
