Another Friday morning from WSU

COUGARS

There is not much to add from last night's scrimmage post, but we have to feed the blog beast, so we came up with something. Read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: We really didn't go into Paul Wulff's reaction from last night other than to note that he was pleased. We had talked with Wulff and a couple of the assistants before the scrimmage to get a feel of what they were looking for, and then basically saw it on the field. For example, offensive coordinator Todd Sturdy just wanted a few live snaps, enough to keep the offense sharp, but few enough to limit the chance for injury. With three backup offensive linemen not available through injury or class, Sturdy wanted to make sure everyone came through ready to go this week. Thus Rickey Galvin, who didn't carry the ball in the first scrimmage, has one carry in the second. ... There are still a couple of question marks to be answered, including the backup quarterback spot. After the scrimmage was done, Wulff addressed that. "There are a few battles that are obviously on-going," Wulff said, "and these next few days are really important. We're going to work a little bit on the opponent, but we have a lot of Cougar stuff we've got to get taken care of these last two days before we really hit, the following week, our prep work." We expect to look at the position battles for Saturday's S-R, then do an overview of preseason camp for Sunday. You've been warned. ... Now on to today's links. ... We had our story from the scrimmage and a short on Greg Sequele not qualifying for college. ... ESPN has more on the WSU/Gonzaga basketball season opener. ... Braulio Perez has this piece on the scrimmage for Cougfan.

• Around the Pac-12: ESPN.com's Ted Miller has five predictions for the upcoming season and an interesting feature on ASU's Vontaze Burfict.... San Jose's Jon Wilner has more on the conference and expansion. ... Washington: The Huskies have some battles yet to resolve as camp winds down. ... Oregon State: The Beavers took their annual popsicle break Thursday, maybe because there are so many players out, they could save a few bucks. ... Oregon: The Ducks make sure there are plays for the kicker and punter. ... California: Safety Sean Cattouse already has a job offer. ... There might be an opening in the Bears' ticket office soon. ... Stanford: The most important Cardinal? Seems it's Chris Owusu from the number of stories. ... Colorado: His first name isn't Jack. That's linebacker Josh Hartigan's position. ... Utah: The Utes are trying to decide who to redshirt as they work out the kinks. And we're not talking about a tryout for Ray Davies. ... USC: From "Tailback U" to just "Who?" as the Trojans try to unravel the running back spot. ... The NCAA gave Lane Kiffin a clean bill of health on his Tennessee stint. ... UCLA: Expectations can be a pain in the arse for a coach. ... Arizona State: Sun Devils still haven't figured out who is No. 2 at QB. ... Arizona: The Wildcats and ASU have a bitter rivalry. But I didn't know it extended to who has the most injuries.

• That's all for this morning. The Cougars are back on the practice field after class today and we'll be there. Until then ...
