Eastern football makes big moves in recruiting

Eastern Washington football fans are seeing stars ... as in three-star recruits - a trio of them, if you believe the rating services. And four more two-star players.

If it all comes together next week, this could be one of the most talent-laden recruiting classes in school history.

The big news this week is a verbal commitment from Eric Barriere Jr., a 6-foot-0, 190-pound dual-threat quarterback from La Habra, California, who announced his decision on Tuesday via Twitter. Here's a profile of Barriere, who reminds some people of former EWU quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.

Here are highlights of Barriere in action.

Last week, Eastern got a verbal from Antoine Custer, whom Rivals.com rates as a three-star prospect. Custer, who plays for national power Concord (Calif.) de La Salle, is the kind of speed back Eastern could use immediately. Here's Custer in action.

Earlier, the Eagles earned the a commit from Tigard (Ore.) offensive lineman Conner Crist, a 6-5, 305-pounder from one of the Portland area's top programs. Here's Crist serving up a few pancakes.

Beyond those three, Eastern has verbals from a pair of two-star running backs, including Jason Talley, a 6-2, 215-pounder from state power Jesuit in Portland. Jason's older brother Jordan played running back and linebacker at Eastern from 2012-14. Also in the fold is Tamarick Pierce, a 5-10, 188-pounder from Albany, California.

At wide receiver, Eastern has verbals from two-star Xavier James (6-2, 170, Buckeye, Ariz.) and Kyle Olson-Urbon (6-1, 190, Gig Harbor, Washington).

At this writing, EWU has at least 11 confirmed verbal commits. All but one are offensive players, and three are in-state recruits.
