The Hamilton-Curtis Discussion

Spokane’s Don Hamilton was not a contemporary of the famous early 20th century photographer Edward S. Curtis. He is old enough to have used similar technology as Curtis once did, including view cameras and motion picture cameras for much of his professional career. Join Hamilton for a hands-on experience working with the wooden 8x10 camera that he carried with him through China in the 1980s as he recreates a version of a Curtis mobile portrait studio. Feel the natural light and the relationship of the camera to the subject, and to the canvas background. A period camera or two and possibly a few other related artifacts from the Museum’s collection will also be on display for viewing up-close. This presentation includes projected video and stills.
