Community Conversation with Joe Minicozzi

You hear it all the time: there’s not enough money to maintain our roads, bridges, sidewalks and other infrastructure in a state of good repair. But why is that? Joe Minicozzi says it may be because many cities aren’t doing the math correctly. Minicozzi is an urban planner, economist, consultant and popular speaker on city planning issues. He uses data and analytics to help communities figure out where they are really earning and losing money. The Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) is bringing Minicozzi to Spokane for a public event to talk about the real cost of urban sprawl; what happens when a government spends more on building and maintaining roads and other infrastructure than development brings in in taxes; planning for walkable urban developments that can actually add to the tax rolls and growth strategies that reduce transportation costs.
