Labrador leads Ward in Republican primary

A contentious race for the GOP nomination for North Idaho’s seat in Congress went down to the wire Tuesday night, as Idaho voters held a typically low-turnout primary election with big consequences. Up and down the ticket, the election set the stage for major contests in November, while writing the final chapter in other races, including a contested nonpartisan race for the Idaho Supreme Court. In that contest, incumbent Justice Roger Burdick was edging out 2nd District Judge John Bradbury.

Group stages last-minute attack in Idaho race

BOISE – An unregistered group calling itself Idaho Citizens for Justice launched a last-minute campaign attack against an Idaho Supreme Court challenger over the weekend, in the final days before today’s Idaho election. The group sent out full-color mailings statewide and ran large newspaper ads touting Idaho Supreme Court Justice Roger Burdick and criticizing his challenger, 2nd District Judge John Bradbury. But the group hadn’t registered with the Idaho Secretary of State’s office as a political action committee or independent campaign, nor had it reported its sources of funding – which turned out to have come entirely from Melaleuca Inc., a personal-care products firm headed by eastern Idaho conservative activist Frank VanderSloot.
