Summary

University struck early and held off Mead 2-0 in a District 8 4A tournament game at Avista Stadium on Thursday.

The Titans' Bryce Williamson singled in a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the first for the only runs of the game.

Jarad Smith worked a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts to earn the win, while Mason Wells fanned six for the Panthers.

Mead will now play Central Valley on Friday at 4:00 in a loser-out game at Avista, while U-High matches up with Gonzaga Prep at 7 in the district championship.
