The warning is in effect across Eastern Washington, from the Spokane, the Waterville Plateau, Okanogan Valley, Western Columbia Basin, Colville Reservation, the Palouse and Snake River areas.
Some residents, who were supposed to have evacuated, have taken matters into their own hands to fend off the flames by clearing brush, digging containment lines and dousing spot fires.
