Giancarlo Stanton’s slam sends Marlins past Mariners

MIAMI – Eager to try for a double play in the ninth inning, Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager bobbled the ball, and the cameras caught his mistake. The runner was initially ruled out, but a replay reversal loaded the bases for the Miami Marlins, and Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam to beat Seattle 8-4 Friday night.

Mariners promote Franklin, Jones from Triple-A

ARLINGTON, Texas – Injuries forced the Seattle Mariners to make a pair of roster moves before the game Wednesday against the Texas Rangers. Initially, the team placed outfielder Logan Morrison on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring and recalled infielder Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma. Later in the afternoon, the team announced pitcher Blake Beavan was placed on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis and outfielder James Jones was also being recalled from Tacoma.

Mariners blanked again as pitching concerns mount

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Seattle Mariners came out of another shutout loss with another ailing pitcher. Prince Fielder and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit back-to-back home runs off Blake Beavan before the fill-in starter left with a sore shoulder and Robbie Ross limited the Mariners to five singles in seven-plus innings in the Texas Rangers’ 5-0 victory Tuesday night.

Mariners notes: Blake Beavan will start at Texas on Tuesday

SEATTLE – Blake Beavan will be recalled from the minors to make the start on Tuesday when the Seattle Mariners play in Texas against the Rangers. Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon announced the decision on Saturday, but did not indicate what the corresponding roster move will be. Beavan, at Triple-A Tacoma, is expected to meet the club in Texas on Monday.
