MILWAUKEE – The unusual smiles in the clubhouse after another Mariners defeat came from players welcoming back an old friend from better times. It wasn’t until right at first pitch of what became a 3-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday that Russell Branyan arrived here, in time to fill a pinch-hitting role. Branyan didn’t see any action, getting stranded in the on-deck circle in the ninth, but he had nine innings to witness Exhibit A of why the team made a Saturday night trade to snag him from Cleveland.
